Male Nude in Painting:Henry Scott Tuke

Male Nude in Painting:Henry Scott Tuke

Discover the homoerotic paintings of this XIXth century British painter.

Henry Scott Tuke (1858-1929) liked to paint male nudes in nature. He is the author of a “Sonnet to Youth”. He met Oscar Wilde and other famous poets and writers of the time.

Because the approach of homosexuality was then very different, this British painter was not highly praised. His other works were recognized however and namely his portrait of Sir Lawrence of Arabia.

His techniques are almost impressionist and his colours so warm. The sunny atmosphere with boys fishing or swimming sublimate friendship in a very sensitive romantic vision.

He was rediscovered in the 1970s and is now considered a pioneer of gay culture.

Really stunning work. The artist deserves the credit to pioneer on male nude painting and venture the artistic side of nudity.

I’m a bit late to the game, but I do appreciate the beauty here. Very well presented.

Surprised? I’m into digging up the very first posts of my new Triond friends just to do things differently. This is awesome. I had the chance to do some male nude sketching back at the University of the Philippines. My hand was shaking the first time, I kept on dropping my charcoal pencil. That was the first time I ever saw a male body in the nude. Henry Scott Tuke is great and you did justice to the works of this great man.

These are impressive paintings.I would love to try my hand at traditional art like this one but no nude painting for me at the moment. Still life maybe.
