Caillebotte and Male Nude Painting

Caillebotte and Male Nude Painting

The French impressionist Caillebotte painted nude male beauty.

The French painter Auguste caillebotte (1848-1894) studied a little at the Paris Ecole des Beaux Arts. He then inherited a fortune from his father and so supported his fellows impressionists. And namely Monet, he helped a lot.

He painted the nude male beauty in “The Floors scrapers” 1878, “The Young Man Drying His Legs” 1884. His style is lively and natural. It is interesting to note that the two paintings are very different on a technical point of view.

Caillebotte was also fond of stamps (his collection being now in the British Museum in London), orchids and textile design.

As i am not interested at all about men nudtity, i do not know what is in that particular painting “The Floors scrapers” that caught my eyes! The very first moment, even before my mind could realize what is exactly the subject i felt something inside me. I almost know nothing about painting and there is no need to explain everything around us.

A lovely article. The floor scrapers looks almost to be a photograph! A refreshing read and two very beautiful paintings.
