A Stunning Neo-Gothic Villa on the Seaside

The French coastline offers various types of architecture. According to the importance of the seaside resorts, villas, mansions and houses may be very attractive. They reflect the tastes and wealth of their proprietors during the centuries.

At the end of the XIXth Century, there was a craze for gothic architecture, that was the Gothic Revival. Many cathedrals, churches, châteaux and castles were then restaured by the great architect Viollet-le-Duc during the reign of Napoleon III. Even neo-gothic furniture was very fashionable. The same happened with houses built in this style but adapted to the time.

Neo-gothic villas and manors can be found all along the French coast, their originality may surprise us today. But we all would like to see what the inside looks like, large reception rooms, decorated bedrooms, like in a fairy tale. Most of the time everything has preciously been kept and is today in perfect condition, even furniture matching with the house and the style of living.

This particular neo-gothic villa, looking on the Atlantic Ocean is called “La Jetèe” (The Pier) and was built around 1898. It is located in Fouras (Charente Maritime), France.
